Right off the bat, we'd need to define what is meant by "special" events. My take is a public event that is held once or twice a year, that has the purpose of offering something other than a concert, or local workshop. It is an event that is promoted and attended nationally. The Grammies would obviously be a special event; the NAMM Show, Lilith Fair-types would be special, festivals generally would fall in this category. In other words, something big and multi-faceted that has music.

For General Access, a search tool would locate in time and space special events with tags. For MGN members, especially those who are asking for certain booking opportunities, they would be alerted, for example, January about applying for performing at the Waterfront Blues Festival.

Now, this brings up the possibility of creating profiles for towns and cities as musical cultural centers. It would obviously tie into the calendar function, but town have their own versions of "special events," so there is such as thing as a "local special event," such as a county cultural fair, or benefit concert, or annual hoedown.

For example, we could link into City-Data.com and extract any relevant information about a town having to do with music, and create a profile around that. Music stores, teachers, schools, venues, local special events, sound companies, agents, media. The informatoin in these profiles would be pushed to members' profiles in the same area.
