As the scout teams scour the web and the world for information about bands, they'll shoveling in reviews on CDs, DVDs, concerts, etc. For the General Public View, I think it's important (especially for Tier 1 bands--famous), to have a human evaluate all the reviews about recordings and post the most sucinct review at the top level, with remaining reviews linked to, but not displayed.
This brings up an interesting and vital point. Although the strength of MGN is in its bottom-up coverage, the splash and flash factor cannot be ignored, and must be given priority, especially at first. And within this module is the perfect opportunity to do it. Yes, these famous Tier 1 bands have already "made it," but that's precisely why we must develop relationships with them as a resource for experience and business savvy.
Efforts must be made to contact their management people and get them involved in creating profiles for these bands (see BANDREVIEWS.HTM).
Because of the overarching mentoring intention of MGN, I think the initial priority should be on reviewing recordings of existing bands, and later fill in with historical data, as it applies more to Music Education. We may want to create or find a resource that tracks musical influences of famous and not-so-famous current musicians, ending up with a sort of geneological tree of sorts, or bubble diagram of artists' influences down through the years.
We will have some of this data because the MGN members list their influences in the profile, and I think it would be valuable to have them weigh the influences on a 1-5 scale or something. It not only could help with historical evaluations later if they become a force, but more practically would increase the accuracy of matching musicians to others, and to their fans.
